Counselor

My name is Charlotte Justice, and I am the School Counselor at Laurel Mountain.  I am excited to begin the journey of this new school year with you!  This will be my 11th year in education and 8th year at Laurel Mountain.  My educational roots began in Houston, Texas in the Spring Independent School District before I ventured to Austin for college.  I earned my bachelor’s degree in Psychology, and subsequently my master’s degree in School Counseling, at the University of Texas at Austin.  After graduation, I was a counselor at a charter high school in south Austin serving an at-risk youth population before making my way to Laurel Mountain as a Special Education and Intervention teacher.  I am a Licensed Professional Counselor, and I am certified in Texas as a school counselor, as well as being certified to teach pre-K through 4th grade, special education, and English as a Second Language.  I am eager to use my strengths and experience to support each student’s social, emotional, academic, and career development.
We have a unique opportunity during our students’ most formative years to help deepen their understanding of themselves and the world around them.  As a school counselor, I support all students in the school by offering a variety of large group, small group, and individual services.  My role is to assist students in developing necessary “soft skills” for 21st century success, such as the ability to work in a team, communicate effectively, manage big feelings, solve problems, think critically and creatively, use empathy to connect to others, and serve our local and global community.  I believe that we can provide a solid foundation for our youth and create ambitious, lifelong learners who will grow to become resilient, flexible leaders of the global environment of tomorrow.  Our best tool for laying this foundation is to develop a strong partnership between school and home to celebrate your child’s strengths and develop his or her talents through meaningful learning opportunities. I am ready to assist and participate in this partnership.
On a more personal level, my husband and I are blessed to have a two-and-a-half year old son.  We spend as much time as possible with our son, often outdoors playing with water, climbing, running, exploring, or most anything active.  Being a “mom” has certainly helped me gain new perspective on my counseling work, and I sleep very well at night after exhausting myself with a spirited toddler.

I look forward to getting to know your child and you as we begin another great school year.  Please let me know how I can help support your child’s development, and contact me if you have any questions or concerns.
Regards,
